Sixth Assignment-Future Ready Elective 8 Teacher 2026-2027
Position Summary
The Future Ready Elective 8 Teacher provides daily instruction to a cohort of eighth-grade students who have successfully completed the Future Foundations Elective 7 course. This year-long elective builds upon students' academic, organizational, and leadership skills while emphasizing college and career readiness, financial literacy, and advanced communication through collaborative discussion and debate. The course prepares students for a successful transition to high school by fostering critical thinking, self-advocacy, and responsible decision-making.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide daily instruction for the Future Ready Elective 8 course.
- Build upon the foundational skills developed in Future Foundations Elective 7 to prepare students for high school success.
- Create and maintain a positive, engaging classroom environment that promotes academic achievement and personal growth.
- Implement curriculum aligned with the goals of college and career readiness, including:
- Focused Note-Taking strategies
- Organization and executive functioning skills
- College and career exploration
- Financial literacy and responsible decision-making
- Socratic seminars
- Academic discourse and structured debates
- Critical thinking and problem-solving
- Leadership and self-advocacy
- Facilitate Socratic seminars and structured academic discussions that encourage students to analyze complex topics, support claims with evidence, and respectfully engage with differing perspectives.
- Guide students in exploring post-secondary opportunities, career pathways, and high school planning.
- Teach and reinforce organizational systems, study habits, and time management skills to promote academic independence.
- Integrate collaborative learning experiences that strengthen communication, teamwork, and leadership.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to support academic and personal development.
- Communicate regularly with families, teachers, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress and program expectations.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assignments, assessments, and participation.
- Collaborate with school staff to support student success and ensure continuity between the Future Foundations and Future Ready programs.
- Participate in professional development related to instructional best practices, college and career readiness, leadership development, and student engagement.

Students enrolled in Future Ready Elective 8 are expected to have successfully completed the Future Foundations Elective 7 course and demonstrate a commitment to continued academic growth, leadership development, and college and career readiness.
