Sixth Assignment-Future Foundations Elective 7 Teacher 2026-2027
Position Summary
The Future Foundations Elective 7 provides daily instruction to a selected cohort of seventh-grade students in a year-long elective course designed to promote academic success, college and career readiness, leadership, and organizational skills. The course prepares students for future academic opportunities by developing the habits, knowledge, and skills necessary for success in high school, college, career, and life.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide daily instruction for the Future Foundations Elective 7 elective course.
- Create and maintain a supportive, engaging classroom environment that promotes student growth and achievement.
- Implement curriculum aligned with the core principles, including:
- Focused Note-Taking strategies
- Organization and study skills
- College awareness and readiness
- Career exploration
- Financial literacy
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Leadership development
- Goal setting and self-advocacy
- Teach students effective organizational systems, time management, and academic success strategies.
- Facilitate activities that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.
- Promote college and career awareness through research, guest speakers, field experiences, and exploration activities, as appropriate.
- Foster leadership skills by providing opportunities for students to lead discussions, presentations, and collaborative projects.
- Monitor student progress and provide ongoing feedback to support academic and personal growth.
- Communicate regularly with families, teachers, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress and program expectations.
- Maintain accurate records of student participation, assignments, and assessments.
- Collaborate with sixth-grade teachers and school staff in the student selection process, including reviewing applications and participating in interviews to identify students who would benefit from participation in the program.
- Participate in professional development related to methodologies, instructional best practices, and college and career readiness initiatives.
Student Selection Process
Students are identified during sixth grade through a collaborative selection process involving teacher recommendations, student applications, and interviews. The teacher assists in facilitating and supporting this process to ensure equitable access for students who demonstrate potential to benefit from the program.
