Inventory Clerk
Distinguishing Features of the Class: Under general supervision the incumbent performs a variety of inventory duties including receiving and distributing supplies and maintaining current inventory of supplies. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities:
? Receive, store and issue supplies, parts, equipment, food and other materials. Checks the quantity and quality of stores and supplies received against purchase orders or requisitions to ensure that they are correct;
? Prepare, maintain manual and electronic inventory records and reports. Sets up and maintains perpetual inventory records for ready reference using computer applications;
? Maintains fixed assets inventory records on all pieces of equipment;
? Communicates with vendors and suppliers to ascertain information concerning supply prices and availability;
? Notifies vendors and supervisor of problems with deliveries such as late deliveries, breakage, or incorrect amount of shipment;
? Uses computer and financial software to acknowledge receipt of goods, maintain receiving records and issue fixed asset inventory tags;
? Prepares and maintains perpetual electronic inventory records and reports for supplies, equipment and fixed assets;
? May telephone vendors to order stock covered by contract. May pick up and deliver supplies, parts and equipment;
? Perform physical inventories of supplies, equipment and fixed assets;
? Compare perpetual records to physical inventory and reconcile and differences;
? Assist in the appraisal of fixed assets.
Full Performance, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Personal Characteristics:
Good knowledge of the methods and procedures used in receiving, storing, issuing and inventory of supplies, equipment and fixed assets. Good knowledge of inventory control methods and recordkeeping. Working knowledge of purchase/requisition procedures; Ability to make simple arithmetic computations. Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions. Ability to prepare and maintain inventory accounting records and reports using various computer applications. Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy weights. Ability to perform close detail work using a computer, involving considerable visual effort and strain. Ability to operate a computer terminal. Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spread sheets, word processing, calendar, email and database software. Willingness to respond to emergencies and work overtime. Clerical aptitude; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and Two (2) years of experience in receiving, storing, issuing supplies, equipment and accounting for fixed asset inventory.
